I actually enjoyed Big Red One more than the previous console exclusive, Call of Duty: Finest Hour. Unlike Call of Duty 2, Big Red One does not feature regenerating health so you do have to be careful and can replenish health by finding health kits in the environments. The run and gun action is frequently broken up by set pieces to keep things interesting. The environments are linear and you’re always told where to go, what to do, and how to do it. You’ll be doing a lot of running and shooting and very little thinking. In fact, it’s more of the same but with a different set of missions, basically. If you’ve played any of the prior games, Big Red One will feel very familiar. Adding an additional layer of cinematic charm to the experience is the voice cast which is comprised of some notable talent including Mark Hamill and several actors from the Band of Brothers miniseries. The game conveys the cinematic-style action the series is known for and throws in actual footage from the war at the end of each chapter. ![]() But Big Red One only follows the Americans, specifically the 1st Infantry Division, nicknamed “Big Red One”, and covers their efforts in North Africa and Europe, including the invasion of Sicily, landing on Omaha Beach, and crossing the Siegfried Line. In typical Call of Duty fashion, Big Red One lets the player participate in historical World War II battles. For this review, I played the Xbox version, specifically the Collector’s Edition which comes with some extra content and interviews. Developed by Treyarch and High Voltage Software and published by Activision, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One was released for GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox in November, 2005. The month after it came out saw the release of not only the Xbox 360 port but also a spin-off title for the previous generation of consoles. It delivers the same kind of action-packed gameplay as its predecessor but expands the formula with more open-ended environments and introduces regenerating health. Multiplayer games that support as many as 16 players are available for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 2.Call of Duty 2 is one of my favorite World War 2 shooters. The ability of players to move, shoot, and meet the goals that a commanding officer provides before the start of each mission will determine how successful they are. They will do so by utilizing a variety of vehicles, such as tanks, jeeps, armored cars, and half-tracks, to complete these objectives. Players will be tasked with recreating the victories achieved during World War II across various land, sea, and air missions in Africa, Sicily, and Normandy. ![]() They will fight through the game as a team in Fighting First and be affected by the loss of friends they suffer on the battlefield. Players will begin the game as a private new to war in America’s most legendary infantry division, which was given the nickname “Big Red One” for the distinctive patch they wore on their uniforms. This is consistent with previous Call of Duty games. Amidst the frantic, heavily scripted, first-person action, the primary focus is on the characters and the drama between them. Players will again engage in combat during the Second World War in the second installment of the Call of Duty series for consoles. ![]() Teachers looking to create a collaborative learning environment. Once again, Koji Igarashi managed to find that sweet spot in the gameplay that took the best of what Symphony had to offer, but balanced it enough to create a unique take. Meanwhile, Harmony of Dissonance veered in the other direction, and adhered too closely with Symphony that it offered little in variation. Circle of the Moon had the exploration aspect, but largely veered in its own direction with the platforming that catered more towards the old-school Castlevanias. And as mentioned, the first two GBA games tried to capitalize on that aspect, but ended up falling short. The obvious highlight for many Symphony fans was its gameplay. ![]() It all ties into the idea of Aria taking inspiration from Symphony, but also tweaking things to stand on its own. In fact, Julius recreates the famous encounter at the beginning of Symphony in one of the endings. The latter is included as fanservice, much like the mysterious J, who eventually is revealed as the required Belmont component for a Castlevania game in Julius Belmont. And it’s pretty blatant that Arikado is Alucard. There are some pretty obvious tropes in Aria, such as Mina’s role. But the idea that it’s someone new doing the vampire slaying in Soma, and the fact that Dracula is nowhere to be found, refreshes things much like what Symphony did. Admittedly, story was never really a big part of Castlevania games. The turn from the familiar Castlevania story frees Aria from the constraints set up by the now well-trodden establishment. Arikado then tells Soma to enter the castle and go to “the Master’s chamber” in order for him and Mina to return home. Arikado explains that Soma has the power to absorb the abilities of the monsters he kills. After Arikado defeats a group of monsters that suddenly appears in front of the group, one of the monsters’ souls is absorbed by Soma. The two meet a government agent named Genya Arikado, who explains that they are in Dracula’s castle. Suddenly, Soma and Mina are drawn into the eclipse, appearing at a mysterious castle. ![]() During a solar eclipse, Soma visits the Hakuba shrine with his childhood friend, Mina Hakuba. Soma Cruz is an exchange student living near the Hakuba shrine. Switching away from the traditional Castlevania story, Aria of Sorrow takes place in 2035 in Japan. That fact still remains true, two decades later. With the third and final GBA entry, 2003’s Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Konami appeared to finally get as close to Symphony as they could, despite the hardware limitations. Disappointingly for some, neither of the first two GBA entries were quite able to approach the de facto Metroidvania in Symphony of the Night. And seeing as the “Metroidvania” style was still hot, it made sense for Konami to try and continue it. And speculation aside, seeing as Kojima is best buddies with The Game Awards showrunner Geoff Keighley, there’s a chance that we could see more of this project next month.Īfter briefly flirting with the idea of a 3D Castlevania with the Nintendo 64, Konami decided to go back to the 2D well with the Game Boy Advance. To add more intrigue to the entire thing, The Game Awards 2022 are coming up on December 8th. So once again, this begs the question of whether this new game is Overdose, the rumoured horror game starring Death Stranding‘s Margaret Qualley, or if this is the Death Stranding sequel involving Norman Reedus? It’s obviously not a film, despite Kojima Productions now having a film and television division. Kojima revealed the actor’s inclusion on the Kojima Productions website, where the an image read “How Come?”, then faded to reveal an image of Shiori Kutsuna with the text “Where Am I?” across her face, similar to the previous image of Fanning.Īnd as you’d expect, Kojima has said nothing else regarding this new project. Last month, Kojima revealed that Elle Fanning would be starring in the project, and now you can add Shiori Kutsuna ( Deadpool 2) to the roster. ![]() Hideo Kojima is continuing his usual cryptic way of dropping info on his upcoming project with another actor reveal for the still-unnamed project. ![]() Given the growth in popularity of remote work, it’s very possible that tax law could change in the next few years to accommodate the changing workforce. The onus is on the taxpayer to know the rules as they apply to them, where they need to pay taxes, and how much. Taking time to read up on the tax implications of remote work will help to stave off frustrating hiccups down the road. In these uncertain times, it’s essential to educate oneself on the changing tax rules and prepare for filing, giving plenty of time before the deadline.Ī recent Harris Poll showed that many people are “not very” familiar with the tax laws in their state of residency or the state where their employer is located. Workers who use 1099 and Schedule C forms, as well as sole proprietors, can still take advantage of deductions for their home office setups. While contract and self-employed workers can still take some home-office deductions, this pre-pandemic act left a lot of new remote workers out in the cold. Miscellaneous itemized deductions were ended for the majority of remote workers, such as deductions for desks and computers. The pre-pandemic Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017 ended some deductions that remote workers enjoyed when they set up their home offices. Deductions and Tax Implications for Home Offices Some states that had pandemic-related moratoriums on tax obligations for remote workers who were traveling state to state, or staying temporarily in certain states, ended those exceptional breaks for 2021. Many states, however, provide a credit to make up for double taxation. This “double taxation” of sorts has led some workers to flee these states in favor of states with low or no state income tax, such as Florida. Some are reevaluating the rules to see if they can recoup lost revenue.Ĭurrently, there are seven states where workers incur a tax liability from their state of residence and the state where their company is located: Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New York, and Pennsylvania. However, remote work has grown in popularity so much that states are starting to become concerned about the lost revenue that comes with employees leaving high-tax states in favor of low-tax states. Typically, the rule is that employees pay taxes based on the state where they reside. Because taxation of remote workers is still in its relative infancy, some states are still adjusting to nonresident remote workers employed by out-of-state companies. ![]() Location also matters when considering companies with central locations that employ remote workers across the United States. Ten states have a flat income tax, and nine states have no income tax at all. Thirty-two states have graduated income taxes similar to the federal income tax. Many people who found themselves working remotely took the opportunity to relocate to low-tax states or areas that better suit their lifestyle, such as the beach or mountains. One of the most appealing aspects of remote positions is working anywhere you’d like, as long as there’s reliable Wi-Fi. ![]() Here are some tips to assist remote workers in navigating their 2021 taxes. This onslaught of new remote workers will lead to many people tackling income taxes for remote work for the first time. A whopping 51% of Americans worked remotely at one time or another between April 2020 and April 2021. Knowing the ins and outs of the tax code and how it applies to remote workers can be daunting. Whether you work for a small mom-and-pop or a large, multistate company, being a remote worker can add an extra layer of difficulty to your income tax filing. With so many workers going remote and staying that way, their approach to doing taxes may be changing. ![]() We found thirteen Microsoft Office courses with prices ranging from $295 to $1,785 and class duration ranging from 1 day to 3 days.
